- This is a centralized Megacell battery module — one unit supports multiple RAID controllers in the same server. Do not confuse with the smaller MC96 individual cache battery cell (7.2V 8Wh) used inside older Gen8 / Gen9 controller cards without a centralized battery bay.
- Required for write-cache protection on HPE Smart Array P-class (performance-tier) controllers. Without this battery, the RAID controller may default to write-through mode, reducing performance.
- Also required for HPE NVDIMM operation — without it, NVDIMMs cannot be used in persistent memory mode.
